On Sunday (6/6) at 8:10 PM, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called by a male subject who stated he hit a pedestrian that was walking in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, a 55 year old male, advised he was traveling south on Colorado Rd. approaching Diabase Dr., when another vehicle was traveling towards him. Due to the height of his vehicle compared to the vehicle heading towards him, the headlights obstructed his view so he slowed down. As he slowed, the driver noticed a subject walking in the middle of the south bound lane a few feet in front of him and attempted to turn to the right to avoid striking him, but was unsuccessful. The subject walking in the roadway, identified as Andrew Harder, 28 of Golden Valley, was struck by the vehicle.
The driver immediately stopped and called 911 remained on scene during the investigation. Golden Valley Fire District and American Medical Response (AMR) responded and transported the victim to the nearest fire department and he was later transferred to a Las Vegas hospital. Harder was found to have sustained severe injuries, but was listed in stable condition. Impairment and speed are not considered a factor in this case for the driver. It was unknown if Harder was intoxicated or impaired or why he was walking in the roadway.
This investigation is ongoing.
