Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested Adnan Ijaz, 39 of Albuquerque, NM, for Aggravated Assault on an Officer and Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, both felonies. On Monday (3/9) at approximately 1:39 PM, deputies responded to the area of milepost 20 on Interstate 40. A concerned citizen
called in a welfare check for a vehicle she had seen parked for approximately two days. The reporting party advised she had observed several empty prescription bottles inside the car and the male subject was hidden under a blanket. The responding deputy attempted to make contact with the male subject, identified as Ijaz, however Ijaz was extremely hostile with deputies. The deputy attempted to explain his reason for being there, when the male subject placed the car in gear and attempted to run over the deputy. The deputy was struck by the vehicle, however did not sustain any injuries. Ijaz then fled the scene and began travelling eastbound on I-40 towards Kingman at speeds of approximately 120 MPH. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety (DPS) pursued the suspect due to the aggravated assault of the officer. The pursuit continued into Kingman, where spike strips were deployed in multiple locations along the
highway. The vehicle’s front passenger side tire eventually began to shred and the pursuit slowed. Ijaz exited the highway at Stockton Hill Rd. and lost control of the vehicle, however still attempted to evade capture by striking a DPS and MCSO car. Ijaz continued to act hostile toward the officers and refused to comply with orders. A window was broken out of the vehicle and Ijaz was tased and taken into custody.

Adnan Ijaz was transported to the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility without further incident. This investigation is ongoing.
